R fake nails bad for your natural nails?

if theyare, what do they do that makes ur natural nails ruined? and also: at a nail salon they do acrylics but they also do natural nail overlays that make ur natural nails gro longer and stronger.....and u dont have to get fill-ins......whats a better idea? acrylic or overlays?

There are 2 main reasons why having an artificial nail system can damage your own nails.....





The nail tech takes off more than just the shine, all it requires is one, or two sweeps maximum with a buffer block. A lot of chop shop salons get the electric file (drill like device) on your own nail and thats extremely damaging...if theres dust coming off it its thinning your nail





The other and probably most damaging thing about the artificial system is...the way theyre removed. They should be soaked and buffed off. Soaked in acetone and buffed off with a nail file. Soaking in water does nothing but soften your nail somewhat which then allows more of the natural nail to be pulled off if you pull or pick at the fake.





A natural nail overlay is where gel, acrylic or fibreglass/silk and resin (fibreglass/silk wrap)is applied on top of your own nails, there are no tips put on so no extention in length. These require in-fills like all of the other nail systems.





As for whats better it really depends on what you want from them and what you have to start with.





I currently have a gel overlay, my own nails are long but as they get longer they get a little weaker so i've just added a couple of layers of UV gel to strengthen them. That is all that overlays are really, added strength, it allows you to grow your own and is occasionally used to deter minor nail biters.R fake nails bad for your natural nails?

the problem is that the glue / acrylic gel don't let air on your nails - so they humidity stays in them and the become soft.


The whole finger bed becomes pale, because there's no light coming to it.


the nails become not only soft, but also break easy and get a weird colour.


about overlays, I cannot say anything.





better use a strengthening polish and a vitamin B/Keratin complex supplement to get your nails harder.
every type of nail enhancement youve mentioned is fine to have done but must be removed properly or your nails will become week and damaged, if you only want your nails to be stronger the overlay will be fine, but it will require an infill, acrylics are great if you want to lenghthen your nails
Fake nails are fake - no matter which kind. Yes, they can damage your real nails. Why go fake anyway?





I say, figure out how often to get them, and, instead, do without and put that $ in a savings account and NEVER SPEND IT!

It is bad for your nails...cuz they make ur nail soft and not hard...It stops the breathing for your nails. And it takes off that lil skin on top of your nail too. Sometimes if you keep them for a long time... you will see ur nail start getting yellow...cuz it cant breath so fungus is starting to grow lol....But i mean it is nice sometimes... I mean it wont kill you if you do them lol
Your natural nails are scuffed before having acylics stuck on and this is what causes long term damage.


False nails are as natural as false eyelashes.
It can either be yes or no because i think the glue can damage your nails a little bit or sometimes they can either make your nail stronger or weaker
Its Very bad for your nails it blocks there oxygen and iron and all that type of stuff one of my friends went all moledy because of fake nails
