Does fake nails damage your natural nails?

False nails dont damage the nail but they do cause temporary problems when they come off. As your nail grows, so does your false nail and with this it causes the nail to form a ridge when the original nail was fixed to your own nail bed. The natural nail becomes soft due to lack of air but it soon strengthens when the air is allowed to circulate again. So look at is as a temporary misfortune but a necessary benefit if you want your nails to look stunning for a special occasion or holiday.Does fake nails damage your natural nails?
I suggest you do some research as there is a wealth of information on the net which suggests that fake nails do damage your nails in the long term.

Your answer may be based on personal knowledge but to suggest that fake nails only ever do minor damage is irresponsible. They can do more than 'minor' damage and sometimes the damage they cause is permanent.

totally:) !
yes.
How long have you left them on? A friend of mine wore them so her own would grow, though I never understood how it happened. She eventually got a nail fungus and was instructed to leave them off and let them air out. Hope that helps...
I believe its all on you, If u were to get them ever month Very often and you keep taking the fake ones off and putting new ones Yes..Because your natural nail is going to get thinner and thinner everytime they file it down to add the fake one. BUT if you where to get your fake nails once every few months and just keep on getting fills then it wont damage your nail you would actually see your nail growing and with fills they wont file your nail down! So it all depends on yourself..
Yes, surely remember the glue and the chemicals.
yes,but feeding the cuticle can help
mine never do!
If you go to the salon and they file your nails down with that machine yes that will cause damage to your real nails. It takes a while for your real nail to grow back completely and totally back into it's original condition. So take a break from getting fake nails every once and a while so they have time to heal.
yeah, i only had 1 nail put on and that was on my little finger. you can now tell as its thin and weak
marcelline

yes fake nails damage your natural nails if you can stay without them stay my nails are not nice so i had to do them they are nice and expencive to keep them but the truth is that you ruin yours if you use hardener for the nail i think you will be ok take care
if you cover the whole nail for a long time it will make them weaker, but if you get gel nail extensions done only the end of your nail is covered, the rest of your nail is gelled, and they look fab!
yes, they make them weak, its not so much the actual false nails but the lack of light, water, nutrients etc that the natural nail can not recieve when covered. Nail varnish can also damage the nails by staining them and making them weak and brittle.
YES, I have used fake nails from the age of 15 they make your natural nails very weak, brittle and prone to splitting. I am now 22 and haven't had any fake nails on for a year and they are still weaker than they should be if you want a manicured look my nail technician recommends going for the everlasting polish ((lasts about four weeks)). If you really want fake nails gel nails are the best ones to go for.
Why do you need fake nails when you have got natural nails?
Yes. When you take them off they will be peeling away.
yes!
YES! TRY GROWING YOUR NAILS NATURALLY-THAT WAY, U KNOW 4 SURE THAT THERE ARE NO HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS !
The normal ones you get do. they starve the oxygen and you end up with weak crappy nails!
YES YES AND YES. I NATURALLY HAVE STRONG NAILS AND I GOT FAKE NAILS AND THEY MADE MY NAILS THIN AND WEAK. SO, I HAD TO NURSE THEM BACK TO HEALTH. THEY MAKE YOUR NAILS THIN BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO FILE ON YOUR NAILS, THEN PUT THE TIPS ON, WHICH IS VERY HARSH IN YOUR NAILS BECAUSE OF THE GLUE. I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TO JUST GET AN OVERLAY ON YOUR NATURAL NAILS BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE TO FILE. AND IF YOU DO GET THEM, TAKE THEM OFF THE CORRECT WAY. WITH ACETONE NAIL POLISH.
I believe they do and I know numerous women who use them who have told me they can't take them off because their own nails are in such a state.

Fungal infections are common in those who wear fake nails. In addition, because fake nails reinforce your natural nails, people who wear tips tend to treat their hands more carelessly and catch the nail or knock it. Those knocks and catches damage the nail bed so when the tips come off, you may find you have a permanent split in the nail bed which travels the length of the nail and grows with the nail. Once this happens, it is impossible to repair the nail bed.

When I was younger, I used acrylic nails for a while. NEVER AGAIN! The glue used to secure the tips to my own nails ate into my nails and I experienced pain whilst wearing the tips. When the nails came off, my own nails (which had previously been strong) were as thin as paper and incredibly bendy. Where the nail glue had dissolved my nails, they were full of pits, some of which went right through the nail to the skin underneath. Thankfully, I didn't wear false nails for long enough to cause any permanent damage to my nails.

Have a look here for an article about the effect of artificial nails on your own nails: http://www.lynnescreations.net/MMA.html I would recommend that every woman think twice before embracing this particular trend. While your false nails might look nice to begin with, over time your own nails will be damaged, sometimes irreperably.
yes i had really strong nails until i had fake ones they are now long again but really thin
like hello! yes!
I don't know.
acrylic%26amp;gel do. if you just glue on the plastic nails, they don`t really damage as much unless you break them.
I've never used unnatural means such as fake nails but I have heard that they can give you an awful case of nail fungus.
if you are talking about french tip fake nails that you get professionally done in the salon then they do not damage your natural nails. if or when you take them off soak them in hott water then try ';chipping'; them off.(i bit mine off)haha. but there will be ';scratches'; from the ';glue'; they use but it should go away in a couple of weeks.
it depends on how ur nails were done, if they were put on wit alot of glue then they well probly affect ur nails. if they are stick on, in my experience they didnt affect my nails.
oh yes, i had them done it completely weakens you natural nail when you take them off. your best bet is to look after your nails with lots of TLC, plus i think fake nails do look really fake!!try a french manicure which will look a lot more natural!!!
it depends but my answer would be probably be yeah
Yes - it your nail bed gets damaged cos it can't 'breathe' with the falsie on top (any type) and it takes years to recover cos your nails are made out of hair which is totally wierd I know

I used to do nails and when I trained I was told that they didn't damage your nails but then discussed it with another girl I was working with and she had been told that it did damage your nails and even 4 years on my nails are still thin and flakey....
